The soft launch of Pradeep Ratnayake‘s Sahurda CD – in which he collaborates with American musicians to play new compositions – took place at the boardroom of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, on 18 December 2019. Pradeep presented the first copy to the Vice Chancellor Professor Sampath Amaratunge. The Dean of FHSS, and the co-chair of the IIVC, Professor Shirantha Heenkenda also attended. The CD was produced with a grant from the IIVCC as part of the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The public launch is planned for next year along with a concert when the CD will be available to the public. Professor Sampath Amaratunge and Professor Shirantha Heenkenda spoke at the event touching upon the importance of work such as this, both at academic and national level, and Professor Pradeep Ratnayake explained the process of the creation of this CD and its significance. Sahurda is a two CD pack with twelve compositions, nine of which are new, and brings together five traditions of music.
