
The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 USJ Innovation Grants program, spearheaded by the Innovation, Invention, and Venture Creation Council (IIVCC). Building on the success of previous grant cycles in 2019 and 2021, this initiative seeks to foster innovative research and support creative projects across the university community.
This grant cycle aims to reinforce the university’s commitment to advancing knowledge and practical solutions through research and innovation. The IIVCC invites the university community to actively promote this opportunity and contribute to its success by overseeing and supporting the initiative.
Key Terms and Conditions
Applicants and selected grantees for the USJ Innovation Grants 2025 are subject to the following terms and conditions:
- Grant Period and Project Timelines: The USJ Innovation Grant is awarded for a fixed period of 12 months, commencing on 3rd June 2025 and concluding on 02nd June 2026. All project activities, deliverables, and financial expenditures must be completed strictly within this defined grant period. No extensions or postponements of the grant period will be permitted once the grant agreement is executed.
- Commitment and Capacity of Grantee: By accepting the USJ Innovation Grant, the Grantee confirms that they possess the necessary time, resources, and capacity to dedicate fully to the successful execution of the approved project within the stipulated grant period. The Grantee must ensure that any existing or new external commitments, assignments, or concurrent projects will not impede their ability to diligently manage and complete the USJ Innovation Grant project according to the agreed-upon timeline and objectives.
- Notification of Conflicting Engagements: The Grantee is obligated to promptly inform the Innovation, Invention, and Venture Creation Council (IIVCC) of any significant changes in their employment, responsibilities, or new assignments that may foreseeably impact their ability to fulfill the obligations of the USJ Innovation Grant. Failure to provide such notification, or if the competing commitments are deemed to jeopardize the successful completion of the USJ Innovation Grant, may result in the review or termination of the grant.
- Financial Management and Accountability: Grant funds are allocated based on the approved budget for the specified grant period. All expenditures must align with the approved budget and University financial regulations. Unspent funds at the conclusion of the grant period will automatically revert to the University, and requests for expenditure beyond the grant’s fixed end date will not be entertained.
- Grant Acceptance and Adherence to University Policies: Acceptance of the USJ Innovation Grant signifies a binding agreement by the Grantee to adhere to all terms and conditions outlined herein, as well as all applicable University of Sri Jayewardenepura IP Policy. All decisions regarding the grant, including its award, duration, and financial disbursements, are final and determined by the IIVCC and the relevant university authorities.
